Cash-for-Appliances Program Tips

The Federal Government is supporting the Cash-for-Appliances program, which started in full swing April, 2010. There are some important things you need to know if you plan to take advantage of this program.

Act Quickly

First on my advice list is to encourage you to act now!  The program both begins and ends April, 2010. The month is half over and the program ends when the limited amount of funds are exhausted.

Check Your State's Website

Unfortunately, this program isn't as easy to navigate as the cash-for-clunkers program was. Each individual State determines how and what must be purchased in order to qualify for a rebate.  If you click on this page, it will take you to map containing all 50 States. You can click on your appropriate State to go to yet another page that should provide the details you need.

Taking my State of New Jersey as an example, the website states that $35.00 to $100.00 rebates are available in store, or by mail, if an Energy Star qualified clothes washer, dish washer, or refrigerator is purchased.

Additionally, another $50.00 rebate is offered to any NJ resident who recycles their old, working refrigerator or freezer through NJ's Clean Energy Program.

I hope there is still time for those who planned to purchase new appliances to quickly find out the information needed and benefit from the rebate program.
