Here just some fresh elotes from Gloria’s farm. She offered us this delicious snack when we went to visit her. They were so fresh and tender we only needed a pinch of salt to enjoy them. As a Mexican I’m used to ea every single day of the year, so I told Gloria that we should gather in December and have corn again. She was like “NO WAY. This is the last week we have these ones, maybe next year. “ Sometimes we forget the importance of eating fruits and veggies that are in season, we want mangoes in December, tangerines in June and corn all year long, and this is super bad for the planet and also for our sense of entitlement. We want things to be available everyday and fast, instead of enjoying whatever the farms give us just for the season. We have Halloween stuff in August and Christmas decorations in September, we stopped respecting the seasons and enjoying the treats that each season give us, we don’t want to wait, we lost the joy of expectation. As we devoured the corn talking to Gloria I thought that this is exactly why these corns are so delicious, because Gloria only eats veggies in season, when we eat whatever we want it’s usually tasteless and less rewarding. I’ll pay more attention to this and also I’ll make a commitment to explain our guests that our tours can’t be the same all year long and that they should relax and enjoy whatever the season has for us. What’s your favorite season of the year? Mine it’s June because we have the best apricots. #mexico #season #fruitsandveggies #sustainability #streetmarket #freshproduce
