5 Handy Methods To Remove Paint From Masonry

There are many ways toremove paint from masonry, but the best way is to use a stripping gel or paste with a soft cloth. Apply the gel or paste to the soft cloth and then place it on the brick. Allow it to stand as long as the manufacturer suggests, then when you peel off the cloth—the paint should peel away along. In most of the aspects though, it would actually be simpler to keep the texture and repaint to refresh the property. For only a relatively small surface area, paint stripper is the cheaper and easier method to remove the masonry paint. Brick, render and concrete are all absorptive mineral based surfaces.

If the building has decorative stonework, the masonry paint may embed into pits and grooves, and we can use poulticing to remove stubborn areas of paintwork. However, we recommend powdered clay poulticing for paint removal from stones. We can also use whiting or sawdust mixed with a non-casting stripper. If the surface is flat or smooth and there is no decorative stonework, we can use a wet sponge to apply solvent directly to the masonry surface. The solvent should be applied in several directions over the entire area of paintwork to ensure that it penetrates all of the pores in the masonry before it dries out again.
