Tourism tends to be a very unfair industry, traditional tour companies survive out of commissions or “kick backs” from the vendors or some even ask for free “samples” promising vendors that some tourists might shop during the tour. I don’ from the tourism industry so I had no idea about this practices, during a trip to Vietnam i learned how awful tourism is for the community and started researching what happened in my country, turned out to be the same. Eat like a local’s approach is completely different, I decided first to ditch travel agencies who take 30% commission, then use that money to pay to everybody what they deserve. And no, I’m not talking about tipping them, I’m talking about paying them what is fair for their service and knowledge. Because of that, our tours represent a huge part of our vendors income, some of them, depending on their service, make 500% more than the regular cost of their products (like el Patroncito here) why? Because lots of stuff are super cheap here and wouldn’t be fair to pay just that cheap cost when they are providing an awesome experience for our guests. We are slowly reopening with small tours for 1 or 2 people, all private. And our vendors couldn’t be happier. We will survive this, we will come back stronger than ever. Thanks for your bookings and trust, and for helping to support our awesome vendors. Eat like a local’s regenerative tourism approach couldn’t happen without your support. See you soon amigos, we have and love for you!
