Prepping for disaster at home

In looking over some of the things needed for a disaster I realized that I might not need some items but may need others.  So I had to pick and choose what I needed.  Since I am a stay at home person my needs would differ greatly from those who are caught unawares while traveling.  My area has not been hit by an earthquake since 1968, I’m not saying that it won’t but I do not live in an area prone to those.  Not only that but I live on a large piece of land, so setting up a tent if necessary would be fairly easy.  Tornadoes are also not high on our list of things to happen, but should they come and my home destroyed, I still have a place to set something up.

From time to time we do have power outages, this is a big concern for me.  I still have yet to find a generator to suit my needs, but I am looking!

Here is my list that I came up with thus far:

Enamel coffee pot (Yes, this is important for me!)
Small 2 burner propane stove w/propane canisters - At least I can cook
2 Kerosene Lanterns with lamp oil
Candles
Water-proof matches
Large flashlight with battery
First aid supplies
2 emergency blankets (Yes there are plenty of these here at home, but it never hurts to give one away should the need arise)
Water purification tablets
Hand sanitizer

For my husband the Trucker I put together 3 packages for him:

1 first aid kit with extra items - band-aids, gauze, tape, gauze pads.
1 emergency extra kit - emergency blanket (one never knows when they will come across an accident), water-less toothbrush, small deodorant, water purification tablets, wipes, hand sanitizer.
3rd kit - Tylenol, ibuprofen, 5 plastic shopping bags rolled to save space, candles and matches.  All put into seal-a-meal bags, to keep them air tight!

So look around, see what you NEED, add it to what you have.  It never hurts to be prepared!!
