... I own an ol' pick'mup truck ... smells like ...hmm... I don't know what it smells like ... burns a little bit of oil ... it's warm ... has more heater than cab ... never gets stuck ... she always makes the hill up to the main road ... lessin' course the snow's over the bumper ... no need to go anywhere then ... just stay home by the fire those days ...

... I would sit in the booth ... at the good cafe ... well there was only two of ‘em in town ... always the second one back from the front window ... always tried to get the side facing the window ... not just to see out on the street ... but well ... the other side had a big tear in the dingy red vinyl ... ol’ Ernie tried patching it with duct tape ... we rolled our own those days ... liked the string-cut ... didn't dry out as fast ... the coffee was good ... hot ... strong ... black ... don't think they ever scrubbed that old urn ... just let the brown keep building up ... coating and seasoning the sides and bottom ...

...it is winter now ...
trees with leaves ... look
...well... you know ...
kinda ... funny in the snow
... they should be stark and
barren ...naked... no leaves
... not now ...
better left to spring ...

... the wind is just howling now ... it's whistlin' in the trees ... rattling the windows ... got brandy in my tea ... sitting by the fire ... wiggling my toes ... gonna have to find that darnin' needle ... else buy new socks ... little toe on my left foot is peeking out ... wonder where my moccasins are hiding ...

... something was banging 'round the porch yesterday afternoon ... the mountain jays are back ... doing their yearly nest rebuilding ... don't know which is more comfort ... meatloaf ... pot roast ... suppose I could skip supper ... instead, just have ... pie ...
