Wrapped Sandwiches

KFC go-go sandwich

If I am going to choose between burgers, pizzas, footlongs, and the usual sandwiches I would prefer among them all the wrapped sandwiches. One of this wrapped sandwiches I have tried is the KFC Go-go sandwich. Every time we go there, I always look for this one.

I love its look and the fact that I see vegetables on it. I really love vegetables in sandwiches. When there is no vegetables and just meat, its just not too appetizing for me. The more vegetables the better, like carrots, cucumber, tomatoes and lettuce.

This is similar to Shawarma, but I have not tried that. What I want is the one filled with chicken. I found a food cart once but now its gone.

There are also sandwich sold called as Plato wraps, its just like the white loaf bread but rounded then with the usual fillings for sandwiches but with less vegetables.

I am just wondering why its not popular here in my place, unlike burgers stores that you can find in almost every corner. Since, its not very popular I would just make my own wrapped sandwiches.

Homemade Flour Tortillas

To make a real wrapped sandwiches, its better if you would make your own homemade flour tortillas

Basic Ingredients:

* all-purpose flour
*salt
* baking powder
*lard or shortening
* water

Cooking Directions:

You will need to whisk the salt, flour and baking powder in your mixing bowl. Mix the lard using your fingers till the flour turns to cornmeal. Add some water then mix till the dough sticks together, then place it on a lightly floured surface to knead for a few minutes till its smooth and elastic. You will divide the dough in 24 equal pieces then roll the piece into a ball.

You are going to preheat a large skillet over medium to high heat. Using a well-floured rolling pin roll the dough ball into a thin, round tortilla. After that place it into the hot skillet, then cook until its bubbly and turned golden. Flip then continue to cook til golden on the other side. Put the cooked tortilla in a tortilla warmer and continue to roll and to cook the rest of the dough.

Wrapped sandwiches

Wrapped sandwiches would look like lumpia when its finish. If you just fold it into 2 it would look like a taco but what I like is the wrapped or rolled ones. Basically, you can put any fillings that you like with wrapped sandwiches.

Here are some links to different versions of wrapped sandwiches:
1. Turkey Provolone Wraps----This one uses smoked deli turkey as the meat, it has alfalfa sprouts, avocado and shredded carrots.

2. Grilled Chicken and Chipotle Wrap---This one uses grilled chicken breast then it comes with red bell pepper, romaine lettuce, and slices of tomatoes.

3. Zesty Italian Wrap---This one has pepperoni and the veggies inside are olives and tomatoes.

4. Tuna Wrap---Its made with canned tuna then cucumbers and sprouts.

5. Chipotle Roast Beef Wrap---You can also use deli roast beef and the usual tomato slices and romaine lettuce.

6. Chicken and Veggie Tortilla Wrap---This one is easy to do all you need are chicken breast, hard-boiled eggs, tomatoes and lettuce leaves.

I can experiment with its vegetable fillings and also with the different types of tortilla as others used tortilla made of spinach, garlic and wholemeal and even potato flour.

They say its a good trail food so it's good to prepare when you are going on a trip. If you are tired of the usual loaf bread sandwiches you can try the wrapped sandwiches as the the wrapped is a bit crunchy and its fun to eat because it rolled up.
