My Mexican Garlic Shrimp Recipe

What is that one certain dish that you consider to be an all time favorite among your family and friends? Well, from what I know, among everyone’s list of favorite foods is seafood. In our family, there is always that moment when my husband, kids, relatives, as well as some close friends would request for me to prepare a seafood dish for them. According to my family and close friends, I happen to cook one of the best seafood dishes they have ever tasted.

Seafood is considered as one of the most requested food amongst a lot of people. Every culture even has their very own rendition or version in how to prepare it. What is good to know is that not only are most seafood dishes packed with omega 3 fatty acids and other vitamins and minerals; seafood is also considered to be a healthier and wiser alternative to eating red meat and other sources of proteins which are proven to contain high levels of fat and cholesterol.

There are even certain types of seafood that attract those people who are not very much into eating seafood. A perfect example of a type of fish is the Mahi-mahi which can be found in major tropical and sub tropical seawaters. This Mahi-mahi can be prepared in various ways depending on how a person would like to cook it.

They say that some seafood just like the Mahi-mahi can effectively quench the cravings of those people who constantly look for high fat and rich red meats just like the steak. Some seafood have a very dense texture which have proven to be fulfilling yet the fat content and saturated fat that it possesses is much more healthier than that of the red meat. This makes seafood a very healthy option to choose and is an ideal alternative for those people who love food but love taking care of their bodies at the same time.

First of all, know that there is a variety of seafood that can satisfy and fulfill the different tastes of people. For example, some people are huge fans of fish from the ocean. What makes it different from fresh water fish? This may be due to the fact that the fish from the ocean have a less fishy kind of flavor than those fresh water fish.

Some people may not place a high regard for this detail but for others, it may affect the whole eating experience. Among all the seafood that you can choose from, the most versatile ones that you can experiment with in terms of flavor and texture are the shellfish such as the oysters, clams, shrimps, crabs, and lobsters.

Nations that incorporate seafood in their culture are usually those that are fortunate enough to be blessed with an ideal geography that is abundant with bodies of water in which seafood can be easily obtained. Among these nations is Mexico. The cuisine of Southeastern Mexico has a substantial Caribbean inspiration due to its location. With this, seafood dishes are commonly prepared in those regions that surround the Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific Ocean. These regions are very well known for their seafood dishes that people have come to love.

Mexico is indeed privileged to be bordered by both the Gulf of Mexico as well as the Pacific Ocean. With this, seafood has become a vital and significant part of the food culture of the nation. Even if you are not vacationing in their luxury villas such as those in Puerto Vallarta or Cozumel, seafood is still plentiful all throughout the nation. Their Mexican shrimp which is called "Camarones" is a delicious delicacy that can be cooked and prepared in many different ways all over the coastal and mountain regions.

The Mexican shrimp is one of the many Mexican recipes that my family and close friends simply adore and love. Its simplicity and plain deliciousness makes it one of my favorite Mexican food. Not only is it delicious, it is very easy to make as well! You do not have to do much with it in order to bring out the lovely flavor and texture of the shrimp.

What you have to do is to carefully bring out the innate scrumptious taste of this sea creature. If you are thinking of a certain dish that is both delicious and easy to do, a shrimp recipe is one to definitely think about. You do not have to be an excellent chef or cook to successfully prepare a shrimp dish that your family and friends will love. Here is one of the simplest Mexican recipes that will surely bring out the taste and texture of the shrimp. Enjoy!

My Mexican Garlic Shrimp Recipe

Ingredients for my Mexican Garlic Shrimp Recipe:

  • 12 garlic cloves (these should be roughly chopped)
  • 1 cup of vegetable oil
  • ¼ cup of unsalted butter
  • 1 ½ pounds of fresh shrimp (these should be peeled and deveined)
  • Salt to taste

How to Make My Mexican Garlic Shrimp Recipe

  1. Get a large enough skillet.
  2. Then, using this large skillet, add in the garlic and sauté it in medium hot oil (which is approximately 300 degrees Fahrenheit) until it becomes light brown.
  3. Watch it closely and carefully so as to prevent the garlic from burning.
  4. Burnt garlic may cause a bitter taste that may be unfavorable to most people.
  5. After about 6 to 8 minutes, quickly add in butter and remove the skillet immediately from the fire.
  6. When all of the butter has been added, the bits will become crisp.
  7. After that, take out the garlic using a slotted spoon.
  8. Set the oil aside and do not discard since this will be used for sautéing the shrimp pieces.
  9. Using a large enough skillet, heat 2 to 3 tablespoons of the oil that you placed aside.
  10. Then, add in the shrimp and sauté them for about 5 minutes or so.
  11. Flip them over and then remove.
  12. Add in more oil as needed in order to sauté all of the shrimp.
  13. Add in salt to taste.
  14. Here, I served mine with button mushrooms accompanied by beans and rice for that lovely contrast in flavors and textures.
