Different Parts of Solar Energy Systems

Solar energy is the latest talk of the town all around. While the government is concerned about the fast depleting fossil fuel and thus successfully adopting alternative renewable energy, people are concerned about the cost factor, be it the increasing utility bill or the cost of installation of the Solar Energy Systems.

To bring in succor to both side’s concern, every effort is being taken to make this change over from conventional to renewable a truly successful one. Government has chipped in different rebates, incentives and subsidies to encourage the people to install Solar Energy Systems while various finance companies have come forward to provide finance through various schemes.

With so much of a hype going on about solar energy it would be apt to know what actually these Solar Energy Systems consist of.

The main component of a solar energy system is the Solar Panel, also known as Photovoltaic or PV Panels. These are made up of Silicon cells and forms the base on which the sun light falls upon. When the light or photons come in contact with silicon they generate current. These panels come in various types of which the three basic ones are the Monocrystalline, Polycrystalline and Amorphons.

These solar panels come with 3 types of mounting namely the fixed solar panel mounts, the adjustable ones and the tracking mounts.

Next is the Charge Controllers. These are the temperature regulating controllers that ensures that even if there is excess temperature generated from sunlight, they do not cause any adverse effect on the batteries thereby damaging them. Most of these controllers come with a three stage facility of bulk phase, absorption phase and float phase. It is placed conveniently between the solar panel array and the batteries.

Power Inverter – this is used to convert the DC current to high volt AC current so that all your appliances can be operated with it.

Storage Batteries – These have made solar energy an all time viable option because they enable the solar energy generated during sunshine to be stored up and utilized when there is no sunshine. They act as the energy storage tank.

AC generators – These are backups that are kept to be used during long hours of absence of sunshine. At these times, the batteries would be charged to provide uninterrupted power supply to the household.

Apart from this, the other parts include the wires and cables and the meter and monitors.

With the right kind of parts, assembled in the most appropriate way, the Solar Energy Systems are ready to be installed.
