Crime is a problem here, so it's recommended to purchase cheap travel insurance just to make sure you're covered during your trip. While here, check out Lake Atitlan as well as Tikal and Flores. You might also want to visit Livingston, Coban and of course the Pacific Coast.

7. Morocco

Essaouira is a great place to visit, as it's a fishing village with a beautiful beach and a lot of peace and quiet. Marrakech is another great place to check out, especially if you like doing a lot of touristy things and trying unique foods. Fez is another great area to check out, because it has outdoor cafes, the Leeds Castle and a bit of the old world that you don't see in other places.

8. Egypt

Egypt is an affordable place to backpack, and even cheaper if you have a student ID card (this will save you half off on entry to most sights). While you're there, go and see the Abu Simbel temple, which is absolutely breathtaking. Then, go and see the Luxor, where you can get ice cream and spend the day looking at all the really unique sights. If you have more time, then stop by the Pyramids in Giza and the Sphinx in Cairo, and the museum that's there as well.

9. Ireland

A lot of backpackers start in Cork, and enjoy Kinsale, Cobh, and the English Market. After that, you can go to Kerry, which is a beautiful area with a lot of towns and villages. From there, you can travel up the west coast and see the Aran Islands and Galway City.

10. Turkey
