My journey with an out of control Bipolar teen
It's just been really emotional and tense past few months. But I feel like if I write a bit about it I may feel a bit better. So here goes. I think I'll start by talking about my son. I have a seventeen year old son that is in some trouble with the law. I know he knows right from wrong, but he also suffers from bipolar disorder and had refused to take his pill for more than six months prior to this offense.We found out in April he will be doing time in a juvenile facility and then transferred to a juvenile corrections facility when he turns eighteen. He can be there from age eighteen to twenty one. They can release him when a judge says he is ready to go, but must be released by twenty one. Now, be it a very hard thing to swallow all at once, there were clues, which I now realize and will never forget. He began coming home later and later past his curfew. Then he wouldn't come home at all. He ran away twice. The last time was when he committed this crime. There were all these signs and why didn't i see any of them? I was a kid once, I know what they are up to half the time. How could I not have seen what was right in front of my face?So, now I have come to the reality of this whole mess. Where they sent him has school that he must attend 6 days a week. In addition, they must read at least one chapter book a week. They also have mandatory counseling sessions. Group and private sessions. The judge also has ordered he see his psychiatrist once a month and he has to take his pill daily in front of a staff member.It's been a long road with this and I am finally starting to realize I have absolutely no control over this. All I can do is think of is to pray every second of the day and hope for the best. I have a whole lot more to add, but I am very sleepy and need to get some rest. I will post again tomorrow.
