Uses for cereal - Granola recipe

Now is not the time for waste, now is the time for conserving what we do have.  Rather than throwing something out, turn it into something new!

If you’ve got kids, you’ve got cereal!  Most of us who have kids will have some boxes sitting on the shelves that everyone is done with and it’s ‘on to a new box’!  So rather than throw it away create something new with it!  Even if it is one the verge you can ‘rejuvenate’ that cereal!  I’ll show you how!

Here is a recipe that I have created and would like to share with you!

2 Cups oats (quick cooking, rolled, it doesn’t matter)
2 Cups Cheerios (plain)
2 Cups Cinnamon Cheerios
1 Cup Cocoa cereal (Gotta have SOME chocolate)
1 Cup chopped nuts

Place in large bowl and mix - set aside

¾ Cup Honey
½  Cup Brown sugar
¼ Cup corn syrup
¾ stick margarine

Place in a sauce pan on med-low heat, stirring constantly.  Bring to a boil and boil for 5 minutes.  Pour over cereal and stir to coat.

Place all of this on cookie sheet and bake at 300 degrees for 45-50 minutes - Stirring every 10 minutes to keep it from sticking and keep it coated.  Watch to make sure it doesn’t burn!!  (Syrup mixture will get bubbly so make sure you wear an oven mitt while stirring!)  When done, remove from oven and set pan on counter to cool.

When it is completely cooled you will need to break it up into small pieces.  At this point if you desire you can stir in the following:

1 Cup dried Cranberries or Raisins
1 Cup Chocolate chips or M&M’s

Seal in air tight bags and you’ve got yourself some snacks on the go!

Any cereal you may have on hand can be used, it does not have to be Cheerios, that is just what I had on hand when making this recipe!

Enjoy!!
