Why you should report stolen content on Redgage
First thing first: if you are making money from something (photos, website, blog etc) you must make SURE that you own all the content. You cannot use others work and make money with it (unless the work was make available under "for commercial use" creative commons. PERIOD). On redgage, you make money for sharing, so your MUST BE THE OWNER OF WHAT YOU SHARE! The only exception to this is links. You are free to share any links. For the photos, YOU MUST BE THE OWNER no matter what the creative common of the photo you want to use is set to. Redgage don't want to have to check every single photos to see if it is under a commercial use creative commons.
So back to my story:
Today I ran across an account where 100% of the photos were taken (not to say stolen) from various sources. I reported (flag) them all as "rights violation".
How do we know the photos are not hers? First of all, some had the copyright mention plastered all over (try not to laugh). And second, there is a very nifty website that allows you to check who is stealing photos to pass as their own: www.tineye.com
Of course this indelicate user will be either banned or her content and money removed by RD. Redgage TOS is clear on this: the photos/pics you upload MUST BE YOURS. They do enforce their TOS: "RedGage respects the appropriate ownership of content and will remove content which does not comply with the copyright laws" (from http://www.redgage.com/help/faq)
Now you ask, why should I care if someone is uploading photos they don't own?? Because Redgage pays you. They share their revenues with you. If Redgage needs to pay a huge amount of money for either hiring lawyers to defend themselves against a lawsuit for copyright infringement, or if they need to pay an astronomical amount to settle said lawsuit..well guess what my friend...you will never see your 25$ pre-paid visa card.
You think I am joking? I use to be a member of Shareapic. They stopped paying because they were in deep s**t: big lawsuit for copyright infringement. You see this site also use to pay for the photos you uploaded. Problem is, people were uploading hundreds and thousands of copyrighted photos...and earning from them. So, some lawful owners of these photos had enough and went against shareapic.
How to report stolen photos: under each photos there is a flag button. Use it and choose "rights violation" in the drop down menu.
Please help keeping this paying site well..paying! We don't need dishonest users. Flag them!
It is not because the ^picture is on google that you can use it and do whatever you want with it. EVERYTHING is copyrighted unless it is back in public domain OR because the rightful owner has given up his right (via various creative common labels).
