Tom Hansen (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is one heartbroken guy who loves architecture but works as a writer in a greeting card company where he suddenly meets Summer Finn (Zooey Deschanel) the girl of his dreams. Now he's fallen and fallen harder for her but she doesn't want to confirm in any relationship with him. Eventually, Tom ends up questioning their status with one another, which manages to put strain on the relationship, causing her to request the dreaded "time apart" until the relationship suddenly ended.
