Annually, approximately 200,000 dogs are transported illegally in northeast Thailand over the Mekong River to reach the tables of restaurants in Vietnam, revealed CNN.

Dogs are crammed in with 20 metal baskets so that one truck will transport 1,000 dogs for a few days.At the end of the journey, the dogs are dehydrated and stressed, many died of suffocation on the way.

"Obviously, when you have several dogs crammed into cages on top of each other begin to bite because of the extremely uncomfortable, any movement causes another dog to feel crushed, so it will react biting," said Tuan Bendixsen, Director Animals Asia Foundation Vietnam, Hanoi organization that advocates for animal rights.

Suffering does not cease when the dogs arrive in Vietnam. In this Asian country is believed that stress and fear lead to the release of hormones that enhance the taste of the meat, which is why dogs are kept in cages that restrict freedom of movement.

Finally, the dogs were killed with their throats are cut or beat before other dogs awaiting the same fate. In some cases, dogs were skinned alive.

"Dogs are highly intelligent animals, so if you kill a dog in front of a cage full of other dogs, they know that they will be killed," said Bendixsen.

Representatives of the animal rights advocates say that traffickers dogs all get together - from stray dogs in Thailand up to the race that are unattended - to sell in Vietnam or China, where dogs pedigree can be traded higher amounts.

John Dalley of the Soi Dog Foundation estimates that 98% of trafficked dogs are domesticated, they are numerous examples neck collar and responding.

"You see many pedigree dogs in these trucks from Golden Retrievers to any other race. Some are bought, others are caught in the street near the temples or even in people's gardens, "says Dalley.

In the past, a "set" of stray dogs was sold for a few plastic buckets, but the increased demand (which occurs mostly in the winter months because dog meat is considered a "food that warms") made as a dog worth up to $ 10 in Thailand. Price increases in Vietnam, where they are served in the restaurant, 60 bucks for a copy.

Dalley said that traffickers target especially pets, because these dogs are more friendly and easier to capture.

Representatives of the animal rights advocates estimate that one million dogs are eaten every year in Vietnam, so that businesses are thriving for smugglers crossing the Mekong River.

While trade in dogs is illegal in Thailand, and authorities conducted several raids in this country there are no laws against cruelty to animals, and traffickers receive light sentences, spending only a few months in jail.

"Here we are not talking about the morality of consumption of dog meat. It is an illegal trade that is worth millions of dollars annually is organized criminals. The manner in which these dogs and how the Carrier were killed, where the transport survive, it is essential terrible. Some shots we receive are so horrible that the images are too strong to be broadcast on television. It is so inhuman that it is literally hell on earth, "concluded Dalley.
