More to Manchester than music

Manchester is famous for its music scene, with bands including the Happy Monday and Oasis synonymous with the city. There’s plenty of other attractions though, and in this article you’ll find suggestions for five other ways to enjoy yourself in the North West capital. These include shopping, eating out, watching football and visiting galleries.

Get tickets to watch Premier League giants

It’ll probably take some planning and a bit of luck getting tickets, but Manchester is home to two of English football’s major players, Manchester City and Manchester United. If you can get tickets to either the City of Manchester Stadium or Old Trafford you will get a chance to see the game at its finest. If you can’t get tickets you can still soak up the atmosphere by going on stadium tours.

Dine out in great restaurants

Manchester has a really good foodie scene, with a number of top restaurants dotted around the city. The two Michelin-starred chef Michael Caines has his name at ABode and The French is another of the city’s finest restaurants, with two AA Rosettes. Whatever your tastes and budget, there are fantastic food outlets in all parts of Manchester.

Soak up culture in world-class museums and galleries

Manchester is also home to some cracking galleries and museums. The Whitworth Art Gallery and Manchester Art Gallery are just two of the cultural venues well worth a visit. There are plenty of museums too, including The Lowry, Imperial War Museum North and Museum of Science and Industry.

Spend a day at The Quays

The Quays have a bit of everything for everyone. One of the main attractions in this stunning waterside development is The Lowry. It is one of Manchester’s most striking architectural feats and home to theatres, exhibitions, restaurants and bars.

The Quays is also home to the Manchester United Museum, Imperial War Museum North, Ordsall Hall and the Lowry Outlet Shopping Centre. You can’t go to Manchester without visiting The Quays!
