Mexican Holidays

Mexican Desserts for Holiday Meals

Traditional Mexican desserts accompany meals on holiday or festival times. These desserts are typically as spiced or sweet as the authentic Mexican foods that will accompany it.

Cinco de Mayo ( which is Spanish for "fifth of May") is a very festive holiday that is help on the fifth of May. The holiday is commemorative of the battle that was held between the Mexican and the French people. The Battle of Puelbla was fought under the General, Ignocio Se guin. It was supposed that the Mexican forces could not win and in truth, the battle was an unlikely victory for them.

Cinqo de Mayo is not, as many believe, Mexican independence day, their largest and most widely celebrated holiday, which is in September.

While it is not widely celebrated in Mexico except for some locations, it is a very popular Mexican and Hispanic celebration in the United States. In the United States, Cinqo de Mayo is more of a Mexican heritage and pride celebration, where fireworks are used, and festivals, street dances and many other methods of celebration take place, as well as vast array of different foods.

Authentic Mexican recipes are used and Mexican desserts are plentiful, with sweets passed out for the children, while the adults feast on many different types of foods. Every family has their own type of Mexican desserts, some specific only to that family, much as every family has their own recipe for... say, a turkey dinner on Thanksgiving.
