The Flinders Ranges
Considered to be the gateway to Outback Australia, the Flinders Ranges is one of the most spectacular places in Australia to take your 4WD. The sand and the rocks are red, and you will see emus and kangaroos everywhere as you cruise around the numerous tracks and routes on offer. The Wilpena Pound Resort will have you covered with a wide range of accommodation options within striking distance of all the major highlights. Moreton Island
An absolute paradise of forests, massive sand dunes and fresh water lakes, the only way to get here is by taking the cruise from Brisbane or the Gold Coast. You can come on your own or as part of a tour, though either way this will be one of the most beautiful spots you or your 4WD would ever have been. There is camping available on the island too, so consider making this an overnight trip, as you definitely will not want to leave.
Pinnacles Desert
Not far outside of Perth is one of Australia’s real 4WD treats, the Pinnacle Desert, where you will find some of the country’s most impressive sand dunes. There is also a lot of wildlife in the area in the way of kangaroos, koalas and emus, and you can often be treated to fantastic displays of wildflowers.
Grampians National Park
There is no shortage of things to see in this magical area, so if you are 4WDing it, be sure to take your time and stop frequently. There are hundreds of unique wildflowers and a huge amount of animal and bird life, so enjoy rolling around this fantastic part of Victoria.
Cape York
It doesn’t get any more off road in Australia than this, so you had better do some serious preparation before you go. It is recommended that you do Cape York as part of a small group tour. Consisting of miles of absolutely fantastic scenery, this is real Australia up here and unlike anything you’ll see anywhere else in the world.
