Understanding Fine Arts

When it is not just the functional value for which an art form is practiced, instead it is practiced to bring out its aesthetic value, it should considered to be a work of fine arts. Its roots lie in painting, printing and sculpting, which is basically design based work. However, it is not just restricted design based activities there are other non-design based activities such as photography and architecture that are also considered within the genre of fine arts.

It is actually quite difficult to properly define the category of fine arts. The reason behind this is that new subjects are constantly being added to this category due to the advancement of technology or artistic invention. The latest subjects that have been incorporated are acrylic painting, silkscreen painting and giclee painting. With regards to invention collage, photomontage and decollage have been included into the fine arts.

The first thing that normally comes to the mind at the mention of fine arts is painting; however it is also often referred to as ‘visual arts’. Painting is a genre that really brings out the aesthetic value of things before the viewer. There are numerous painters all over the world but not all are equipped to be considered as a fine arts painter.

Mark Borghi is a painting enthusiast; he in fact is the owner of several all across New York. His first gallery was set up in 1998 in New York City after which there were several other set up at places such as Palm Beach, Florida, Bridgehampton, etc. The exhibitions at his galleries showcase several genres of painting from contemporary to abstract to pop art and even sculpture.

This type of art can be traced back to the Acheulian period; and during the Ottoman and Byzantine rule, those who practised fine arts were regarded as mere skilled workers. It was the Renaissance that changed the way of thinking and gave ‘arts’ it much deserved place in the society, with the increasing importance of design called the “disegno” at the time.

Post this; the 16th century saw the fresh revival of fine arts where students who wanted to pursue something more in their creativity headed towards Europe where they could get the opportunity to get training in special academics. The two universities that impart this education follow the principles of Renaissance art, which include message, form, color, composition, etc. They had aligned a certain hierarchy of the various genres of painting which stood as History painting, portraiture, genre paintings, landscape and still life.

The boundaries of fine arts have been expanded by the contemporary artists, and it is their paintings and the paintings of other renowned artists that are exhibited at the art galleries of Mark Borghi. People like him know how to appreciate good art and promote it. He arranges for exhibitions with some of the best in the field and makes sure that the common man are made aware of the extent to which creativity can be taken.
