How to Set Up and Optimize Your Wireless Router

Want to achieve the best possible WiFi performance in your house or workplace? If yes, look no further than our tutorial. Here, we will make you familiar with the know-how to set up and optimize your wireless router. However, the process of setting up a router is similar as that of  new extender setup.  Installing a device seems a worst nightmare for some users but it is not that much difficult. Read on to learn more.

Hardware manufacturers have made it easier for even not-so-tech-savvy users to set up a home network. New access points consist of clearly labeled ports making it simpler than ever for people to connect everything. Several devices come with a basic configuration preset to make setup an easy task. However, just because you have turned on every device, it doesn’t mean that your network’s security and performance are as good as they should be. You just need to walk through the steps given below:

  1.   Select a suitable location

To get started with the installation process, choose a location for your device like an open floor space. This need not to be the permanent place as access points occasionally require careful positioning and placement in places that are hard to reach. It’s recommended to place it in a central location. You can also take the help of Ethernet cables to put it in an open place.

2.     Turn it on

Plug the device into an electrical outlet and turn it on by pressing its power button.

3.     Connect your modem to router

Despite the fact that older modems usually connect through an Ethernet cable, USB connections are turning out to be even more common. While making a connection using cables, make sure that each and every cable connects tightly. Let us tell you that loose cables are one of the most common reasons of  WiFi range extender setup  issues. As soon as you connect a cable, ensure to power off and power back on again the modem.

4.     Connect a PC to access point

Make use of a network cable to connect a PC to access point. It is worth notable that do not use a WiFi connection of router for first-time setup as its wireless settings are not yet configured. Using a cable for initial setup temporarily keeps dropped or intermittent connections far away.

5.     Access router’s admin console

With your PC connected to access point, launch an Internet browser and go tomywifiext.netweb user interface. One can also enter default IP address of their device into URL bar and press enter key. Make sure to check your device’s manual to find its default IP address.

6.     Log in to your device

Once you are on  mywifiext,  it will ask for a username and password. You can check the manual for credentials. However, it’s suggested you to change them immediately for security reasons.

7.     Type wireless connection information

In case you wish your device to connect to Internet, type its information into the given field. Next, upgrade its firmware to the latest version whenever available. The newest firmware consists of important bug fixes and security as well as performance enhancements. Most of the devices will check for the latest firmware but some of them do this automatically. After updating the software, reboot your device.

8.     Consider changing SSID

Wireless access points come with a default SSID but there are numerous benefits of using a different name. Make sure to create a solid, strong and hard-to-guess password for your network, so that no hackers can get their hands on your sensitive information.

Enjoy your WiFi network

In case you perform each and every step with a great care, you can easily log in to your new wireless network by entering the WiFi password you created. Check for guest network feature on your equipment. If it has, don’t forget to turn it on. This functionality lets your friends, guests or family members access Internet while preventing the rest of your system from them.
