Eldridge Financial Review – Helicopter Parent: Result of Economic downturn

http://eldrigefinancialreviews.com/eldrige-financial-review-helicopter-parent-result-of-economic-downturn/

A well dressed woman went from booth to booth, recruiter to recruiter, passing out resumes, asking about job openings. Not for herself, rather, for her son. In short she stands as for her son. The woman introduced her Son. He just graduated with a degree. He’s sharp. He doesn’t know what he wants to do, but I think he’d be good at HR (Human Resources) “recalls   Preet Kuar, a Manpower company recruiter who spoke with the woman. For baby boomer parents, who have diligently- some would say obsessively- followed their children from diapers to diplomas, that encounter was perhaps the next logical phase of so-called “helicopter parenting.” Clearly, parental hovering do doesn’t end at college graduation but continues well into the job hunt.In the recent survey to more than 3,000 employers by the Collegiate Employment Research Institute, or CERI, based at Michigan State University , about a third – 31 percent – of companies report that parents are more involved in their son’s or daughter’s career search than prior to the recession.Mom and dad are chatting up their kid’s credentials with company officials, stalking college career staff, handing out their kids’ résumés at career Fairs, even showing up at job interviews.Based from the Manpower’s Gold River office named Kuar, it’s actually happening quite a bit. It is a lot more parent involvement from setting up job counseling appointments to forwarding their kids resume. And once the kids get interviewed or even hires, worried parents will immediately ask Kuar: How’d they do? What’d you think? Did they sound intelligent? What’d the hiring manager say? This kind of scenario is just one of the effects of the said recession. Parents still seize the wings that are intended for their son or daughter. Moreover, the causes of extended parental hovering are partly deep-rooted, partly economic. But it’s also due to a job-scarce economy, which has heightened anxiety levels among adults and their college-educated kids, many of whom have moved home to save money while hunting for work.Given that, it’s not surprising that baby boomer parents are doing their utmost to get junior a job. However this kind of occurrence is not the answer to the said slump. It is just like parents are not confident enough to the knowledge that their sons or daughter earned in their schooling. It is also about taking their sons self decisiveness out rather than letting them to seek for a job and be their minds opened to what is the reality brings about.  Furthermore, this can possibly add to the said economy downturn for the reasons that new generations don’t have the capability to enter in the so called reality of life. These parents think they are helping, but they are not. There is a line between supporting your children and enabling them. Once the students finish college they need to make their own decisions. Let them take these opportunities to trim down their fear in making decisions n their own in which will give benefit to the global economy.
