Photo credit: FrupusNormally I recoil in horror with bugs of all kinds but with this little fella I have overcome that fear. The spiny Flower Mantis, or Pseudocreobotra wahlbergii, is a beautiful and colorful flower mantis. They are white with orange and green stripes, and as adults they have a beautiful patch of color on their wings that looks like an eye. This tiny bug measures between 1 to 2 inches and is native to Southern and Eastern Africa. The Flower Mantis is a mostly inactive hunter, it prefers snatching food, pollinating insects, directly from the air rather than searching for the prey. When vulnerable, the Spiny Flower Mantis rears up and outspread these wings that give it a much more frightening creature with large golden eyes. Mating can be tricky for male mantises, they have to stay alert or they might end up becoming the female’s next meal. It is contradictory because researchers say that they aren’t averse to feasting on their own kind when hungry or overcrowded. Photo credit: bugalirious-STOCK
