Leather vs. Mesh MC Riding Gloves

A motorcycle does not provide the structural protection that a car does to keep drivers safe in the event of an accident. Thus, it is important that motorcyclists take extra precautions to protect their body with the necessary motorcycle armor  and gear while they ride their bikes.

After your helmet, gloves are the most important item of safety gear. There are a huge number of variables at play in a crash, but quite often it's a reflex reaction to stick your hands out in front of you to break your fall.  Our fingers are very delicate and hands are an awesome combination of extreme fragility and utter necessity. Thus, when you are not able to use your hands for weeks because of a motorcycle accident and you were not wearing a pair of gloves seems completely pointless.  This is why gloves are never optional, just like the motorcycle helmet. Both are just as vital when you ride a motorcycle.

Gloves can provide a bit of extra protection in a crash.  They act as a useful first layer of defence, enough sometimes to prevent painful cuts and grazes.

Why are motorcycle gloves  so important?

1 Protect your hands during falls

2  Help prevent hand numbness during rides, especially on long rides.

3  Provide better grip and comfort

4  Protect your hands from road grime and bugs

5  Protect your hands from the cold

Leather vs. Mesh Riding Gloves? What’s the difference?

Leather- When it comes to protecting our paws at 65+ mph motorcyclists have been wearing leather gloves since the beginning, for a good reason. Leather gloves are more suitable for winter.  They can be waterproof (but not necessarily) and windproof with a thermal liner and comfortable inner.

Mesh–  Choosing a pair of summer motorcycle gloves is even more difficult due to the conflicting goals of ventilation vs. protection.   A glove that flows a large volume of air to the rider’s hands usually means a glove with more or larger perforations or the use of mesh or textile fabrics, which may reduce the glove’s protective abilities. Gloves made with mesh paneling or without a liner are more suited for hot summer rides.

Have fun riding around on your machine, but be prepared. Make safety your number one priority!
