Improving Awareness and Education in Law
In 2005, the Creative Commons and Science Commons unveiled a new program known as the open access law program. This program was brought forth to improve awareness and education to everyone at no cost. The idea was to allow all individuals access to legal scholarship articles that were once only available to those in the field or studying law.
These publications, initially started in well respected law schools, were researched, written, and edited by legal scholars. The program requested that these publications accept the open access policy for their archived articles to improve scholarship and awareness in the law.
Initially, there were about twenty-one publications that adopted the open access law journal principles. Today, that number has more than doubled. Most of the journals that have adopted these principles or ones similar to these are published in the United States. There are other countries that provide journals in the open access forum, including Canada, the Phillippines, the Netherlands, International, as well as, others.
Law journals have always been good resource for those needing to understand or study the law. By adopting the open access policy everyone, no matter what your educational background or financial wealth is, you can have access to this resource. These journals contain articles written by scholars expressing their ideas, experience, and knowledge in regards to certain laws, cases, statutes, and the history of law. These publications are an important resource that can improve scholarship and awareness for all individuals provided they are an open access law journal .
The open access law program has opened the door to further education and awareness for all people not just those practicing or studying the law. Because of this program thousands of scholarly works are provided to everyone.
These open access law journals can be found online. They are accessible to everyone, free of cost and authorization. Some reviews and journals permit feedback not only to the author of the scholarly material but to the publication as well. These journals are not only written by students or professors any more but contain works from academic, public servants, judiciary representatives, as well as, those practicing law.
It’s not difficult to understand why there would be improvement in scholarship and awareness in law when publications adopt the open access law journal principles. By providing this resource of legal material to every human being across the world, can only improve the awareness and education of law.
