5 types of Termite Treatment

Termites are no doubt a widespread menace found anywhere and everywhere, whether it is a damp or dry place. There are two types of termites, one each i.e. one for damp areas and one for dry areas and are called dry wood and the subterranean termites respectively. Termites are quite active and are secret and silent destroyers of properties.

There are different types of Termite Treatment taken up by professionals and these mostly depend upon the type of infection, level of infection and of course the budget. Of these the 5 widely used Termite Treatment methods are :

Chemical Extermination - This is the widely used method in which strong pesticides are sprinkled, sprayed, injected that would kill the termites. But, of late this method is being discouraged as it has been noticed that their hazardous properties indirectly affect the humans too that can cause various health problems.

Bait Extermination – In case people do not prefer to go for gases or chemicals with apprehension on health grounds they can opt for the Bait Extermination method. In this the professionals lay a bait of food items like paper, wood, etc that are mixed with lethal chemicals, along which they place the insect monitoring stations. Once the main location is identified, these baits are increased and the termites are completely eliminated.

Fumigation – In this method a particular type of gas is pumped into the entire house and left for sometime. As it has anti-termite properties the termites would be completely destroyed. Prior to letting out the gas, the entire house is covered with a huge tent that seals all outflow options and lets the gas to engulf the entire house. The termites die of suffocation and are eliminated from the root. As it covers the entire house and tenting the cost is obviously on the higher side.

Heat Extermination – In this method the room is heated at a higher level using different methods. Though this is to some extent effective but isn’t much efficient, given the rate of resistance that these termites have developed with changing environment and the unusual warmness of the atmosphere.

Liquid Extermination – In this method, different liquids, either repellents or non-repellants are injected into the infested area and in and around the entire area and even outside the house. This either keeps the termites at bay or those woo get infected pass on to the other members and are killed in mass.

Apart from this, there are many DIY treatments one can undertake to keep one’s house free from termite infestation.
